Compassionate, non judgmental person centred psychotherapy and counselling support combined with life coaching

I’m Pete and welcome to Mental Change,
I am a psychotherapist, counsellor, and coach mentor,
My work is shaped by both professional training and real-life experience. I offer a supportive, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, understand your challenges, and begin to move forward in a way that feels right for you.
My journey hasn’t been conventional. From a young age, I trained in martial arts, which taught me discipline, resilience, and the importance of the mind-body connection. Alongside this, I experienced challenges growing up, including exposure to trauma, violence, and addictive behaviours. With the consistent support of my close family, I was able to navigate those experiences and develop a deeper understanding of people, emotions, and behaviour.
At sixteen, I was involved in a serious hit-and-run accident while riding my motorbike. Although I walked out of hospital that night, the long-term impact on my body changed the direction of my life.
After losing my main mode of transport and unknowingly suffering psychologically from the trauma of the accident I left my college course and went to work in the city of London in an office, commuting on trains and buses for eighteen months.
At eighteen, I had plans to join the Royal Engineers, but was advised I would need major surgery due to my injuries suffered in the motorbike accident. After carefully weighing up the risks, I chose a different path and continued in the workforce instead.
I went on to build a career across a range of industries, eventually becoming self-employed in the building trade.
Later, following another life-changing accident that left me paralysed, I was faced with rebuilding my life in ways I had never imagined. Through determination, adaptability, and the right support, I regained independence and discovered a new sense of purpose.
That purpose led me to retrain in psychotherapy, counselling, coaching, and mental health.
Today, I combine my qualifications with lived experience to support others through their own challenges. I understand that life can be complex and at times overwhelming, but I also believe strongly in the ability to adapt, grow, and create meaningful change.
My approach is client-centred, practical, and compassionate. I work alongside you at your pace, helping you build clarity, resilience, and confidence in yourself and your future.

Psychotherapy in It’s simplest terms is a conversation between two people, the aim of the conversation is to work through mental health issues like trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression eating disorders or insomnia. The therapist uses the conversation to help guide the client to understand what they are experiencing and then work together to find solutions to their problems that the client may have been struggling with for years.
Counselling is very similar to psychotherapy and the two often overlap. I have trained in counselling and psychotherapy to give myself the best chance to help people. Counselling involves talking through issues to deal with whatever clients are experiencing right now and it’s not as deep as psychotherapy. Counselling is usually short term.
A life coach doesn’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions (like a therapist). Instead, they focus on the present and future, helping you achieve your goals
Therapy can be short or long term, it depends on the client and their needs. Some clients feel better about their problems after a couple of sessions and decide they want to end the therapeutic relationship, others may feel they want to continue with therapy long term but less frequently. One client may be finished with the therapeutic relationship after 3 sessions whereas another client may still be feeling the benefits after 3 years, it’s not 1 size fits all.
Depending on the client the session will usually last between half an hour and fifty minutes but an initial assessment consultation may last for an hour and a half
I don’t have any prejudices and am happy to work with anyone who is polite and realistic, psychotherapy is not a magic wand so the therapeutic relationship depends on us working together with honesty, I can guide you and provide the framework but results depend on you implementing the tools and techniques that I can provid for you.
I achieved my level 4 in cognitive behavioural therapy in July 2025 after studying and training for 4 years, however I have level 3 qualifications in other disciplines from 2024, like my level 3 personal trainer diploma and food as a healing medicine and healthy diet level 3 diploma. I have been fortunate enough to be able to be a full time student that has meant that I have been able to focus solely on learning.
Regulation is voluntary in the UK and I am proud to be a full member of the ACCPH and the institute of counselling, I follow their code of conduct and provide a therapeutic contract that ensures my commitment to you.
I am currently working voluntarily to provide help to a few select people whilst I am awaiting the completion of my new office.
